Why did you choose your internship?

I chose this internship, because I one day hope to own and operate my own large show pig operation. Choosing and doing this internship helped show me what the day to day looks like when you are managing over one-hundred breeding sows.

What did you gain from your internship experience?

I was able to learn how this operation breeds sows, farrows sows, manage sick hogs, feeding show pigs the proper diet for their build, choose breeding pairs, and see what the daily tasks are. I have plans to utilize this knowledge on my own operation to improve it.

What factors influenced your decision to choose this experience for your internship?

I have purchased show pigs and bred sows from this farm in the past and had the chance to meet the owners, so I had an idea about what their farm was about. Learning what they had to offer was an experience I will never forget.

What advice do you have for other students as they search for their internship?

The advice I would give is to take risks and if you have a place in mine that you would be interested in don't be afraid to give them a call and see if you all could work something out.

How has your internship experience influenced your plans for your future?

My internship has influence my future plans by it has really shown me that if I put my mind to something I can do whatever my dreams are. Owning a large operation is very doable if your passionate in what you do and make a plan along your journey.
