The seminar on local healthcare innovation experiments presented by the Department of Agricultural, Education Technology & Innovation will feature three dynamic guest speakers. 

Kirk Saunders

Kirk Saunders has 40 years of experience as an entrepreneur as a principal and owner focusing on real estate finance, development and acquisitions (2,500 units of multifamily housing and over $150 million of capital raised), and medical software startup companies (4 companies, 1 exit and another exit pending). He has served for 25 years on the Board of El Rio Health Center in Tucson and was the past President of the Board, Founder National Federally Qualified Health Center Best Practices Forum and Chair of the Strategic Innovations Committee. Kirk Saunders was also one of the co-founders of the El Rio Foundation, the largest foundation for a federally qualified health center in the US. He practiced law at Manatt Phelps in Los Angeles for 3 years at beginning of career. He is now retired and still recovering attorney.

Chair of many Healthcare committees in DC, Testimony for NAM before Senate Finance, Treasurer of Washington Business Group on Health. Board member of National Committee on Quality Assurance

Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission- Health care control model followed by Romney Care, then moved to Affordable Care Act.

National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics. Chairman of Quality Work Group, member Population Health Privacy/Confidentiality, and Personal Health Record subcommittees,  complexity meets bureaucracy

Robert’s current passions include: Imagine Greater Tucson, member of visioning subcommittee, focus on Community, criticality of measurement, problems caused by its absence, Index of Prosperity, Making Action Possible.

 

Dr.Ski (Floyd) Chilton

Dr. Chilton is an innovator in a wide range of areas including as an academic professor (with over 160 scientific publications), an entrepreneur (founding 4 for profit companies), a best-selling book author (with 5 books), and an inventor (holds over 25 patents). Dr. Chilton is a Professor in the School of Nutritional Sciences and Wellness and is widely recognized in academia and industry for his work on nutrition in the context of the human genome where he was an early pioneer in the area of personalized or precision nutrition and wellness. In 2003, Dr. Chilton was named as an Ernst and Young, Entrepreneur of the Year for the Carolinas, and this year was elected to the National Academy of Inventors. Dr. Chilton is also founder and President of the not-for-profit, Heroes Helping Heroes (HHH) and sits on the Board of the Persecution Project. HHH helps orphans/foster children in the US and Africa, and The Persecution Project brings crisis relief, education and hope to victims of civil war, genocide and religious persecution within Sudan.
