Why did you choose your internship?
At both internships, I had been an employee for longer than what the internship time was. The feed store was good income and an informational job. Working on the ranch is what I love to do. Not only that, I learned a lot and really hope to get a career alongside it. Both places were worth my time, informational and experience ways.
What did you gain from your internship experience?
I gained a better understanding of everything that is involved in the cow-calf production management ways. I really gained a better understanding of business tasks and the feed operation industry. Actually, after working at the feed store, I personally gained a deep interest in the feed industry.
What factors influenced your decision to choose this experience for your internship?
There were a couple of decisions that impacted what my internships were and what they become of. I have been working at the feed store for over a year now; and I do enjoy my time, while also learning something new each day. For the ranch internship, my dad had asked for help this summer. Which it did not matter wether he asked or not, because that what I love doing. My dad also has a deep feed store business past, which he helps me understand the feed industry.
What advice do you have for other students as they search for their internship?
Chose something that interests you or an industry field that you really strive to be involved in. Also, make sure the internships are going to have a professional side to it, so that a intern can learn. Lastly, chose an intern that you know you will not regret and not forget.
How has your internship experience influenced your plans for your future?
My ranching internship help me further my passion to continue being involved in the beef industry. It also has opened a couple career opportunities. The feed store business also has helped me shape what I want to do in my future. Lately, I have been thinking about careers in the animal feed business.
