Why did you choose your internship?

I wanted to experience a sales environment prior to completing my degrees! I am hoping to continue into agricultural sales so I dreamed of being able to experience this prior to graduation. When approached by my boss to jump up to sales as an intern I leaped at the opportunity.

What did you gain from your internship experience?

I gained so many lessons, qualities, and colleges that I will cherish and am forever grateful for. I first learned patience and confidence, both being vital in this industry. Customers can be trying at times so learning how to navigate negative behavior was a huge lesson for me. Confidence came in my ability to speak to customers and be confident in my knowledge, and I love this new found confidence. I lastly learned about teamwork in a sales environment. While most think that sales is every man for himself I was taught that we are all one big team with the same goal: sales. I love my team and loved this internship.

What factors influenced your decision to choose this experience for your internship?

As I said in my opening I knew that I wanted to look into sales after graduation. So, when my boss noticed I talked to customers well and wanted me to try out sales I thought why not! Funding a new found skill was amazing, so I jumped at the chance to learn about sales.

What advice do you have for other students as they search for their internship?

My advice to students looking for an internship is to try something new and out of your comfort zone. I never saw myself being in sales, but because I took a chance I found a great new skill. If you have the opportunity to do something that makes you uncomfortable take the chance!!!!!

How has your internship experience influenced your plans for your future?

This internship solidified my want and drive for sales. Due to this opportunity I am now pursing my masters with UofA to further my education. I also have been in contact with some very promising sales opportunities following graduation due to the internship. I 100% want to purse agricultural sales!
